Rap Star Gunned Down at 33

8/17/2025

Atlanta-based rapper T-Hood was shot and killed at his residence in unincorporated Snellville, Georgia, on Friday evening, August 8, 2025. The 33-year-old musician, legally known as Tevin Hood, died from his injuries after being taken to a nearby hospital.

Gwinnett County police were called to a report of a dispute that escalated into gunfire around 7 p.m. on Lee Road. Officers arrived and provided emergency medical assistance before Hood was transported to a local medical facility.

Hood’s mother, Yulanda, confirmed the death to TMZ and dismissed rumors that the shooting took place during a social gathering. She refuted reports claiming a party was held at the home at the time of the incident.

A person, identified as Ky Lasheed Frost, age 24, son of reality TV personalities Kirk and Rasheeda Frost, has been detained and is considered the primary suspect in the shooting. Authorities are treating the incident as a possible act of self-defense following a domestic dispute. As of now, no formal charges have been filed, and the identity of any additional persons involved has not been confirmed. The investigation remains ongoing.

T-Hood was becoming a notable figure in Atlanta’s underground hip-hop scene, gaining a loyal audience through his dynamic, bass-heavy tracks. His well-known songs included “READY 2 GO,” “Big Booty,” and “Perculator,” which were popular in the Southern rap community.

Although not signed to a major record label, Hood built a dedicated fan base and was recognized for his authenticity and diligence in the industry. His distinct voice and persona set him apart in the competitive Atlanta music scene.

The rapper’s last Instagram post was made about a week before his death. His music producer, Deddotwill, paid tribute on social media, expressing disbelief at the loss and noting they had been in contact on the day of the incident. Deddotwill wrote, “We was just on the phone all day.”

Just weeks before his death, Hood shared a promotional video on Instagram for his song “Grave Diggerz” on July 21. The video depicted him dressed as a ghost in a cemetery, wearing a white sheet with red paint around the eye holes. In the video, he made darkly comedic remarks about death while promoting his music, which fans now find particularly unsettling.

During a 2023 interview on “Off The Porch,” Hood talked about his career highlights, including writing songs for rapper Chingy and performing with him on The Millennium Tour in Atlanta. He described feeling anxious about performing in mainstream settings, noting the stark contrast from his usual underground venues.

Hood had previously addressed youth violence in social media posts, especially following geopolitical events. In one message, he cautioned young people about the consequences of engaging in real-life violence, drawing comparisons to video games and urging them to reconsider their actions.

At the time of his death, Hood was dating Kelsie Frost, the sister of the detained suspect, Ky Lasheed Frost. After the shooting, she posted emotional messages on social media defending Hood’s memory and requesting privacy while expressing frustration with rumors about the incident.

The shooting took place at Hood’s home, with multiple police units responding to secure the scene. Investigators are continuing to piece together the events that led to the fatal confrontation, although they have indicated there is no active threat to the public.

Police have requested anyone with information about the shooting to contact Gwinnett detectives at 770-513-5300. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS, with cash rewards available for information leading to arrests and indictments in the case.

Hood’s death marks another loss for Atlanta’s vibrant hip-hop community, where he was working to make a significant impact in the underground scene. His most recent music release, “Girls in the Party,” was published in May 2025.
